GOLDEN ROD

Look outside!!! Golden Rod is blooming everywhere.  Let's pick some and make remedies!!!   Traditionally used for colds and flu, urinary track infections, aches and sprains, and allergies.  What's not to love!  On  Sat Sept 18   10:30 am we'll make a tincture plus an oil for salve.  The class is $20 and if you want to take a tincture and/or oil home, it's $5 per jar extra.

HERB CLASS - RESPIRATORY REMEDY $35

Class dates: Aug 7 and Sept 11   10:30 am

If you only have one herbal remedy in your herbal arsenal, THIS IS IT.

Respiratory illnesses attack almost everyone, every age, every color, every sex, everywhere at some point in the year.  We cannot seem to escape them.  ACHOOOOOO.

This is a complex tincture remedy with a labor-intensive recipe.  In this class I will teach you how to compound it, let you have a hands-on experience of making medicine, share the recipe and explain the WHY and HOW each herb works.  The recipe makes a two tincture set: formula 1 and formula 2.

These two tinctures--formula 1 and formula 2, are a "set" and must be used together.

One set will treat one person for 10 days.

There are NINE herbs in this awesome recipe so they pack quite a punch. Their herbal actions include anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-pyretic, anti-viral, anti-oxidant, anti-septic, anti-inflammatory, diaphoretic, alterative, vulnerary, antispasmodic, hypotensive, febrifuge, carminative, astringent, hemostat, diuretic, expectorant, anodyne, mucilaginous and cholagogue.

The herbs are beneficial for the respiratory, immune, lymphatic, endocrine, circulatory, nervous, digestive and cardio-vascular systems. They support the liver, kidney, bladder and entire alimentary canal.  They are high in mineral and nutrient content. I can’t say enough about the healing properties of these combined herbs.  This is not only a wonderful hands-on formulating class it’s a chance to learn about the powerful healing constituents of these NINE herbs.

Respiratory Remedy may quite possibly be the BEST CLASS OF THE YEAR.  It has traditionally been the most expensive because of the cost of the material to make it.  But, this year I have revamped the procedure.  Now, instead of ten sets of tinctures being in the cost of the class I HAVE LEFT IT UP TO THE STUDENT WHETHER OR NOT TO BUY THE TINCTURES.

So, this drastically lowered the price of the class from over a hundred dollars to $35 for both classes (8-7 and 9-11).  And, the tinctures will be available to purchase OR NOT....your choice.

The tinctures will be for sale during the two class dates (Aug 7 and Sep 11) at $15 for a set of two tinctures (4 bottles).  THIS IS A PHENOMENALLY LOW PRICE.   After Sep 11 the price will be $39 for a set of two tinctures.

Maiden.Mother.Menopause MAKING BABIES!!!

I love this class!!!!

Trying to conceive?  There's an herb for that! (Actually several!)  Got swelling?  High blood pressure?  There's an herb for that!!  Varicose veins or hemorrhoids?  There's an herb for that!

Getting the picture?  Herbs can help prevent or ease common pregnancy ailments, make you more comfortable during labor and help make a healthy baby.

What can you do NOW to help insure a healthy pregnancy?  I have a magic potion you can take starting wherever you are in your baby journey--well, ok, it's not a magic potion but it's as close as you can get to one!

It will help with morning sickness and milk production.  It can decrease leg cramps and muscles spasms.  It will tone and nourish your entire body and make a healthy environment for making a baby.

In fact, this magic potion is the Make 'N Take* for this class. $5 extra.

Whether it's making baby, having baby or after baby this class is sure to have something you are looking for.

Syllabus and Schedule

Tuesday, August 18  6 pm to 7 pm  Young Living Essential Oils:  All About Basil.

Saturday, Aug 22 10 am to noon.    First Aid Part 1:    First Aid classes are presented in two parts.  The first part uses essential oils as the primary protocol--we will deal with inflammation (as opposed to broken bones, etc).  However, this is not a typical “use this oil for this ailment” class.  Your body is run by various systems (nervous, circulatory, etc); we will discuss which plants (essential oils) resonate with those body systems thereby encouraging the body toward wellness.  We will also study plant actions – these actions determine what affect the plant has on the body system.   If you know which body system your “problem” belongs in and which plant has an action that works on that body system, you will be able to determine which plant (essential oil) to use for your problem.  For instance:  the immune system works with inflammation and infection so if you have a cut you would need an herb (oil) that stimulates the immune system into action.
Handouts include class booklets which contain the information on body systems/plant actions and numerous recipes to make your own herbal remedies.

Saturday, Aug 29 10 am to noon.     First Aid Part 2:  This class will use herbs in their plant form as the primary protocol. (First Aid Part 1 is not a prerequisite but would be beneficial). Part 2 will NOT repeat wound care protocol explained in Part 1.    We will study which wild, cultivated or purchased herbs work best for first aid, how to prepare them and how to use them.  You will learn when and how to use compresses, poultices, salves, liniments and tinctures including practicing the application process of poultices and bandages.
Handouts include class booklets of general information, a Materia Medica (plant information & protocols) and recipes (different recipes than Part 1).

Tuesday, Sept 1   6 pm to 7 pm  Young Living Essential Oils:  All About Frankincense

Saturday, Sept 5  10 am to noon.         Herbal TLC:   Herbal remedies have been tried and tested by generations of our families.  We will focus on the antibiotic and anti-viral properties of my top 20 list of herbs, what body systems they work for and what actions they take in that body system.   You will learn the HOW-TO of water-based, spirit based and oil based herbal remedies.  Handouts include class booklets of discussion topics and instructions and recipes for making herbal preparations.

Remedies

When I was a little girl I always spent part of the summer with my grandparents--Grandpa Henry and Grandma Lizzy. It was the highlight of my life. Kittens. Cousins. Featherbed. Outhouse. Adventures untold. It's where I fell in love with farm life.

This is Grandma Lizzy. Isn't she beautiful?

And chickens. I loved Grandma's chickens. Grandma let us girls gather the eggs and by some magic known only to seven year olds some of the eggs landed in our "kitchen" instead of Grandma's.

Eggs are good for a lot of things such as stuffing tiny halter tops just to see what being grown up feels like. (Wonder of all wonders, not one egg ever broke in our clothes.)

Dorothy and her infectious smile.

My cousin Dorothy and I through much trial and error created the best recipe for using eggs:

2 parts fine dirt like the kind chickens love to dust bathe in

1 part well water, hand pumped and ice cold.

1 small handful leaves torn into bits--these always work better if they are gathered in a fit of giggles.

Mix thoroughly and vigorously with Grandma's borrowed spoon. Or, if caught before we got out the door, two sticks work almost as well.

Blend well--a few lumps are acceptable--then add the crowning touch. That magical part that transforms a muddy concoction into the perfect culinary masterpiece: one egg. Or, if we were feeling particularly adventurous and brave, two eggs. Bake in sun for 15 minutes. Five minutes will work if you are really busy or if you see Grandma filling the old galvanized tub with water and you know "swim" time is imminent.

Garnish with an acorn. Wah-la: the perfect Kansas Pie.

I've often thought that maybe this is why I love to mix up herbal concoctions. I dig in the dirt. I mix and measure by parts. I get that same feeling of satisfaction. Healing comes in the making as well as the remedy itself. Thank you, Grandma, for those experiences. And, thank you, Dorothy, for all our adventures.

If you like to stir things up once in a while and like the idea of healing naturally then you'll love my herb classes. Next Tuesday in the herb cottage here at the farm we will be learning to make creamy herbal salves for all those little owies and herbal extracts that nudge the body into wellness. No eggs involved. So, come on out-- we'll sip herb tea, talk and make magical mixtures of wellness. There may even be a giggle or two.
